The most powerful tech event in the world showcases an array of futuristic technologies and groundbreaking innovations, with a particular spotlight on the automotive industry.

Our R&D + Innovation Director, João Queirós along with Solutions Architect, Carlos Abrantes, attended the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024, hosted at several venues across Las Vegas last month.

The most powerful tech event in the world showcases an array of futuristic technologies and groundbreaking innovations, with a particular spotlight on the automotive industry. From forward-looking electric vehicles (EVs) to advanced autonomous driving systems, the public could witness first-hand what future driving may look like.

Among the key highlights were advancements in EV technology, with major automakers exhibiting their latest electric models showcasing improvements in battery technology, extended range, rapid charging capabilities, and sleek designs.

Autonomous driving systems took center stage, with industry leaders uncovering their latest innovations in self-driving technology, from enhanced safety features, such as driver and passenger monitoring systems for fatigue alerts, to integration with smart city infrastructures.

Among the vehicle tech & advanced mobility trends, display technologies were undoubtedly another highlight of CES. Transparent displays, particularly on panoramic roofs with dimmable glass, among many other solutions for replacing interior and exterior mirrors were some of the display technological advancements featured at the event.

Furthermore, it’s clear that manufacturers are powering their next-gen vehicles by integrating digital or software defined chassis with enhanced connectivity capabilities such as Over-The-Air (OTA) firmware updates.

These capabilities allow manufacturers to integrate some OTA technologies whose applications may include subscription-based services like BMW's heated seats or Tesla's autonomous driving, requiring firmware updates or subscriptions for activation.

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) into automotive applications was another prominent theme at CES 2024. AI-powered assistants, capable of understanding and responding to natural language commands, were showcased alongside AR-enhanced navigation systems, providing drivers with real-time information and immersive driving experiences.

Another notable trend was the adoption of lighting systems primarily using LED screens, enhancing the feasibility of testing with vision systems (cameras).
