Controlar Wins the 2026 National Innovation Award with PicAI

Controlar was recognised in the Industry, Metalworking and Equipment category with PicAI, an intelligent inspection solution developed to improve the accuracy, reliability and traceability of electronic testing processes.

Controlar won the 2026 Portuguese National Innovation Award in the Industry, Metalworking and Equipment category with PicAI — AI-driven Probe Inspection Control.

Promoted by Jornal de Negócios in partnership with BPI and Claranet Portugal, the Portuguese National Innovation Award recognizes companies, projects and individuals that transform knowledge and technology into solutions with economic, social and environmental impact.

The award was presented on July 9 during a ceremony held at the Jerónimo Martins Auditorium at Nova SBE, in Carcavelos, bringing together business leaders, academics, specialists and representatives from different sectors of the Portuguese economy.

The fourth edition of the Portuguese National Innovation Award received 116 applications, resulting in 13 winning projects and 10 honourable mentions.

PicAI: Artificial Intelligence Applied to Electronic Testing

PicAI was developed to automate the inspection of the marks left by test probes on the contact points of printed circuit boards.

By combining high-resolution image acquisition, computer vision and Artificial Intelligence, the system can identify misalignments, incorrect contact and signs of wear that may compromise test reliability.

By replacing a traditionally manual inspection with an automated, repeatable and data-driven process, PicAI helps improve the quality, traceability and efficiency of electronic testing processes.
