Interview with María Aragón

What led you to choose engineering as a career? What were your first steps in the world of engineering?

Since I was a child, I have always been fascinated by understanding how things work and how they can be improved. I was drawn to the idea of solving problems and creating innovative solutions, which led me to explore different fields until I discovered that engineering was the best way to channel that passion.

My first steps in this world were exciting and challenging. From my first day at university, I faced challenges that forced me to develop analytical and creative skills.

As I progressed in my studies, I was able to participate in projects that allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge to real-life situations, which reaffirmed my vocation and my desire to continue growing in this profession.

Tell us about the beginning of your relationship with EIIT. How did your journey with the company start?

When I was selected for the position of engineer in the Aeronautics department at EIIT, I was very surprised. I had never worked in this sector before, so at first everything was completely unfamiliar to me. Adapting was a major challenge, from learning about new technologies to understanding the team dynamics and the specific processes of the sector.

The first few months were demanding, but also deeply enriching. Each day represented an opportunity to learn, absorb knowledge, and develop new skills. Thanks to my own determination and the support of my colleagues and coordinator, I managed to overcome the initial difficulties and began to feel increasingly comfortable in the aeronautical environment.

Today, I look back and see how much I have grown professionally. EIIT has given me the opportunity to work on fascinating projects, collaborate with experts, and contribute innovative solutions. Although the beginning was challenging, this journey has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

What do you enjoy most about your work? Tell us a bit about your role and daily routine.

What I enjoy most about my work is the opportunity to tackle complex technical challenges and contribute to the development of innovative solutions in the aerospace sector. Each day allows me to learn and apply knowledge to projects that directly impact the efficiency and safety of aeronautical systems.

My responsibilities include the design, calculation, analysis, and optimization of aeronautical systems, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to find the best solutions. I also participate in tests and simulations to validate models and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.

My routine varies depending on the current projects, but it usually includes technical meetings, model development, and data analysis.

What makes this job special is the combination of analysis, creativity, and teamwork, which allows me to develop innovative solutions and see how my contributions impact the final outcome. I’m motivated by knowing that the work we do contributes to technological advancement and the improvement of the aerospace industry. Additionally, the collaborative environment and support from my colleagues make each day enriching and motivating.

Among the various projects you’ve worked on, is there one that stands out? Why?

The project I highlight the most in my career at EIIT is, without a doubt, the first one I was assigned after my training period. Until that moment, I had never worked in the aeronautical industry, so it was a completely new challenge for me.

Although the project itself was small, facing it for the first time was a significant challenge, as it required me to learn quickly and adapt to an environment with high standards of precision and demand.

What I remember most from that experience is the constant support from my coordinator, who was by my side every step of the way, guiding me and giving me the confidence I needed to move forward. Thanks to his guidance, I was able to overcome the initial obstacles and acquire knowledge that has been key in my professional development.

How would you describe the team you work with every day?

The team I work with daily stands out for its commitment, collaboration, and professionalism. Each person brings their experience and skills, creating a dynamic environment where innovation and continuous learning are fundamental.

Smooth communication and mutual support turn challenges into growth opportunities. Additionally, the work environment is positive and motivating, allowing everyone to perform with confidence and efficiency.

It’s inspiring to be part of a team that not only focuses on achieving goals but also values the well-being and development of each member.

What has your experience been like in a traditionally male-dominated environment?

My experience as a woman in a traditionally male-dominated environment has been full of challenges but also great opportunities. Throughout my career, I’ve learned to trust in my abilities and knowledge to demonstrate my professional capabilities without letting stereotypes define my performance.

I’ve had to face certain barriers, such as the lack of representation or the perception that I had to work harder to be recognized. However, these difficulties pushed me to develop greater resilience and determination.

Over time, I’ve seen progress in inclusion and diversity within the sector, and I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with people who value talent above all else. I believe it is essential to continue promoting an environment where everyone, regardless of gender, can grow and contribute without limitations.
